Enough amount of protein, carbohydrate, fat, vitamins and minerals in diet meal plans is important both for the body’s health and for the burning of excess fats in the body. Consumption of adequate nutrients is an important element for permanent weight loss.
Detox plans, which consist of fruit or vegetable juices made for a short time, may also be effective in weakening. However, it should be noticed how many days these detox plans have been implemented in order to maintain body health and to maintain weight loss permanently. It is healthier to use detox plans containing liquid detox drinks in all meals instead of programs with only one meal.
Behavioral treatment is defined as the sum of strategies based on individual behavior data learned and maintained and supported by certain social conditions. The treatment of obesity and eating behavior disorder is one of the most important areas where behavior change treatment is applied in recent years.
The reason for the change of behavior in the treatment of obesity is indispensable because of the abandonment of individuals’ misbehavior that leads to obesity. In addition to diet and exercise, behavioral change treatment can provide 0.5-1 kg weight loss per week and maintain this weight loss for approximately 1 year. Approximately 25% of individuals continue to lose weight after treatment. In addition, it has been reported that behavioral treatment improves psychological functions and reduces the rate of attrition due to depression.
The frequency of examinations with the therapist is also important in the treatment of behavior change. Examinations should be held more frequently at the beginning of treatment, then less frequently, and later as needed.
Stages of behavior change treatment:
- Stimulus control
- Developing alternative behavior
- Reinforcement, self-rewarding
- Cognitive restructuring
- Social support
Surgical treatment is widely preferred recently. This method should be preferred as the last remedy after the implementation of various obesity diet plans and no results. It should be remembered that there may be side effects as well as positive results and various symptoms may occur in organs.
Gastric banding, bypass, gastric balloon, and stomach reduction are among the bariatric surgical methods and are applied to reduce the absorption of nutrients. It is a method that is mostly applied for aesthetic purposes for the removal of body fat. If the diet does not change after applying these methods, the lost weight is likely to be recovered in a short time.
Drug treatment is used in the long-term treatment of obesity not used for a short time. If patient does not lose weight within 4 weeks of treatment, the drug is discontinued. In the first 6 months of treatment, the weight gain becomes faster and then slows down. The drug is given in terms of the condition of the obese patient.
The patient who has a high appetite is given drugs that decrease the appetite and the patient who eats less, actives less and the drugs accelerating the metabolism are given. For those who have an active sports life, drugs that accelerate the burning of fats and convert them into energy are used.
